The foreign-exchange market

Forex is the exchange of one currency against another. A currency-pair quote expresses how much of the second currency is needed for one unit of the first. Exchange rates respond to supply, demand and economic expectations.

It is a global, decentralized market involving banks, businesses, institutions and individuals. Access methods and costs differ between providers.

Trading hours and liquidity

Many currency pairs trade for roughly 24 hours on weekdays across Asian, European and American sessions. Liquidity is not constant and can decline at particular times or during disruptions.

Liquidity refers to market participation, but does not eliminate slippage or unexpected execution prices.

Learn before risking capital

Understand position size, leverage, margin and spreads before using real funds. Platform practice and demo accounts can help uncover order-entry mistakes.
